Ramjan Diaries · Vol. I
Chapter Three

Events

There are thousands of events in a person's life. Ramjan's, likewise. These are the ones worth retelling.

If we were to pen down every detail it would take a whole day, or perhaps more, to read the article completely. So we have highlighted the major events below. Some are sweet and worth keeping. Some, as the section heading honestly admits, are sorrowful — and worth keeping as well, in their own way.

Of Enjoyable Moments

Being a funny guy, his life is full of unforgettable moments. The laughter at the back of the class. The running between the class halls. The fights on the playground. Wherever he went, he made friends easily — and those friend groups did a number of crazy things together, most of which would not survive being written down.

Of Sorrowful Moments

Where there is laughter, there is also sorrow — and for Ramjan, the fit is perfect. What follows are the seven cases on the official record.

Case · IThe Year 2012

The Punishment

A school punishment incident that quietly escalated into expulsion. The first time his name landed on a register for the wrong reason.

Case · IIThe Year 2014

The Gang Accusation

Accused of belonging to a gang, with allegations involving extortion and gambling. The label, as such labels do, stuck rather longer than the truth did.

Case · IIIThe Year 2015

The Paper Leak

An attempt was made to steal an exam paper. The plan did not work; the punishment did. It was severe, and remembered for a long time after.

Case · IVThe Year 2016

The Mobile Case

A smartphone was confiscated. The public phone, afterwards, met an unfortunate end. Ramjan and electronics: an ongoing, complicated relationship.

Case · VThe Year 2017

Valentine's Day

Chocolates were distributed in good faith. They were misunderstood as a romantic pursuit. A small gesture turned into a campus rumour.

Case · VIThe Year 2018

The Nightout

A police encounter, during a visit near the girls' hostel. Result: a one-month suspension. The story spread faster than the truth did.

Case · VIIThe Year 2019

After the Suspension

A haircut incident, which somehow turned into a second suspension. By now, the principal's office had a chair reserved for him.
